Clean Your Room!: Clearing the wardrobe.

I have followed the ” clean your room ” technique, which has turned my life around. I was furious, depressed and emotionally volatile due to a feeling of uselessness and unimportance. Nothing I did was good enough for anyone, and it kept dragging me down.

When I first came across this, I thought this strategy was mocking people with nothing left. But I’m delighted I was wrong. I figured I needed to do something, and it seemed such a trivial test to sit on my bed and think of something in the room I didn’t like and fix it, no matter how small.

I will revisit this process to put everything back in order and revise my new direction.

Day 1: Tidy clothes.

Day 1: Tidy cloths

So today, the task that I chose is to tidy up my basket of clothes. I collected it all onto my bed and went forward to sort the clothes into categories, and then I folded the category and put it away when it was finished. This allows me to get clothes away when I have two young children who like to come along and mess up a tidy pile of clothes.

Day 2: Vacuum the floor

I began by just making sure my floor was clean with no clothes or objects lying around so that I could get the carpet vacuumed, as I have a robot machine that I use. I set a cleaning schedule to make the task easier, so I don’t have to turn it on. I need to ensure that I pick up anything lying around every morning.

Day 3: Making space

While I have been cleaning and thinking about what I want to change in my room, I would like to clean out my wardrobe to sort out the other things around my room into it. I need to remember that I will be moving into a new home, so ideally, I am not spending too much money removing things I will want down the track.

Day 4: Cleaning Meditation

Today it was time for the second shelf in my wardrobe. Everything was pulled out onto the bed, wiped the shelf down and sorted out the items on the bed. Interestingly enough, after I sorted out the first two shelves, the things I kept all fit on the top shelf with room for more. I didn’t expect that cleaning is like meditation, as it brings your mind to the present and into the task at hand.

Day 5: Ideas forming

Today I was clearing out the next shelf. I’m doing one at a time to tidy up the mess as I sort through quickly. I have been thinking about what I want my room to look like my whole life. I will create a new page to explore new topics I am studying.

Day 6: Finished!

Finally, it is all done! The wardrobe is now decluttered. I did not expect that even going back through this process has allowed me to get to know myself more, as I have been thinking about everything I want to change. I thought I would feel like I stepped backwards doing this process, but it has brought me closer to better understanding myself.

Keep an eye out for the next post to Clean Your Room!
